Every Saturday, my father would set up what he called "the bar"—
a couple bottles on the counter, a few mixers,
an old cutting board, one shot glass, and a spoon.

My mother beside him, putting together simple hors d'oeuvres—
ham and cheese on sliced bread.

Nothing elaborate.
But it didn't need to be.

Because the house would fill with something more important—
conversation, laughter, and people being present.

Friends came by. Family gathered.
And without realizing it, we were building something that would last far beyond those nights.

At nine or ten years old, I would step behind that counter—
playing bartender, learning the rhythm.

That was their ritual.
